Person Who Reached For Ariana Grande during Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted past a barrier and grabbed actress Ariana Grande has been deported and prohibited from Singapore.
The man, aged 26, was sentenced to nine days in jail for being a public nuisance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," Singaporean immigration authorities informed Singaporean press.
The man shoved past photographers and rushed toward the performer and artist, who was attending the Asian premier for the musical adaptation on 13 November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
He has a background of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including rushing the stage at the pop star's Australian show in this summer.
The event provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of re-traumatising Grande.
The singer has mentioned dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her show in the UK city in spring of 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 people and hurt numerous attendees.
During Wen's trial, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to local news sources.
He then made a another effort to jump the barricades. Protection personnel stopped him and pinned him down.
Wen later posted video clips expressing gratitude to the star for permitting his access and said he was "free."
Police detained him the following day and charged him with public nuisance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Presiding Judge Christopher Goh was referenced by a news outlet as saying that Wen was "attention seeking", commenting that he was incorrect to believe he would not suffer any consequences.
Grande has not addressed the situation.
The co-star discussed the event to NBC, stating that she "simply desired to verify my colleague was protected."
"I'm sure he had no intention to us danger, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I sought to ensure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she commented.
